Living in Ellisville, MS

Ellisville, Mississippi, offers the charm of a small town with a little more right at your fingertips. According to the 2020 U.S. Census, Ellisville is home to 4,652 residents, giving it a comfortable small-town feel while still offering many of the everyday conveniences you need close to home. One of Ellisville’s most charming features is its downtown square, centered around the Jones County Courthouse and surrounded by local shops, restaurants, and businesses that make the downtown area easy to explore on foot. Ellisville is also home to Jones College, bringing higher education, activities, and events right into the community. Around town, residents have convenient access to grocery stores, hardware stores, pharmacies, medical clinics, parks, a local police department, and other everyday services—meaning you can often take care of what you need without making the drive into one of the Pine Belt’s larger cities. Ellisville offers a wonderful balance of small-town character, a walkable downtown, educational opportunities, and practical everyday convenience.

Favorite Ice Cream: Bennie & Mae’s Ice Cream— One of my favorite sweet stops in Ellisville. My go-to is the s’mores milkshake, but there are tons of ice cream, shake, and dessert options to choose from. One of the things I love most is grabbing a treat, sitting outside at one of the tables, and visiting with people as they walk by. It’s a fun little downtown stop that really captures the friendly, small-town feel of Ellisville.

Favorite BQ Stop: Swamp Shack Barbeque — Definitely not your average barbecue joint! Along with traditional barbecue favorites, the menu includes tacos, chicken tenders, burgers, and plenty more. I honestly haven’t tried anything there yet that I haven’t loved. With so many choices, it’s a great place to take a group because there’s something for just about everyone—even the pickiest eater at the table. It’s a fun, casual Ellisville favorite with a menu that goes way beyond barbecue.

Favorite Walking Path: Howard Technology Park —This is one of my favorite places in Ellisville to slow down and enjoy an evening walk. Beware though, no public restrooms onsite! The park is centered around a peaceful pond with a bridge crossing over the water, and much of the two walking trails is shaded by tall pine trees. You’ll often spot geese enjoying the pond and turtles stretched out sunbathing along the way. The trails are also well lit, which I especially appreciate when the days start getting shorter, and there are exercise stations along the way. My girls and I have spent many evenings here walking, talking, and catching up, so it’s a place that holds some really sweet memories for me.
